A point of view

AI is one of the biggest opportunities of our lifetime.

Things that once needed a team, a budget or a developer are now within reach of one person with an idea. That could mean more freedom. Or it could just mean cramming more work into the same hours. I care which one we choose.

Technology should give us more room for life.

Not take more of it.

AI that gives business owners capability and capacity without removing their judgement, voice or humanity.

How I work

You don’t need to be technical to build with AI.

You do need to be clear about what you’re building and why. Four things I come back to every time.

    Start with what you want more of.

    Time, money, headspace, choice. Know what you’re building towards, then understand how the work happens before choosing tools or automations.

  2. 02

    Build around a real need.

    Start with a problem worth solving or an idea you’ve been carrying around for years. Build something useful, then improve it.

  3. 03

    Keep your judgement.

    Use AI to support preparation and execution while keeping people responsible for decisions, relationships and the work that needs their care.

  4. 04

    Check what you build.

    A useful system needs to work reliably. Review its outputs, test its behaviour and keep it simple enough to maintain.

Hello, I’m Marni.

I help people turn ‘could I?’ into ‘I built this.’

I’m an AI educator, speaker and the founder of She Builds. I take complicated technology and make it make sense, so non-technical women and business owners can use it to build things that give them back time, money and choice.

I didn’t start out trying to become an AI person.

I’ve run a craft business — hand-made cake toppers, sold one at a time. It taught me what every small business owner knows: you are the marketing department, the finance team, customer service and the person sweeping the floor.

I’ve also spent seven years working in technology, translating between the people who build software and the people who run companies on it.

Becoming a mum changed how I think about time. I don’t want success to mean being permanently busy, or missing the moments I’m supposedly working for.

So I started building something of my own, towards a life with more choice over when I work, where I work and what I work on.

What I keep finding is how much AI can do for people who would never call themselves technical. People like the woman with the cake topper business, doing everything herself. The moment it clicks is always the same: “Wait… I can actually do this.”

What I stand for

Success should give you more life, not take it away.

AI isn’t the mission. Freedom and choice are. Everything I teach, build and talk about comes back to that.

  • You don’t need to be technical to benefit from technology.

  • AI should amplify your judgement, creativity and ideas, not replace them.

  • More productivity isn’t the goal. More capacity, choice and freedom are.

  • Ideas are worth building, before you feel completely ready.

  • Work should support the life you want, not become it.

  • You don’t have to wait until you’ve made it to start living the life you’re building.
